Advanced IPL Technology & Professional Treatments
reatments are carried out using professional-grade IPL technology designed to target a range of skin concerns safely and effectively.
I am fully trained and qualified in advanced IPL treatments, with consultations and patch testing carried out before treatment to ensure suitability and safety.
Everything You Need To Know
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) works by targeting the pigment (melanin) within the hair follicle.
Controlled pulses of light penetrate the skin and are absorbed by the hair, converting into heat. This heat damages the hair follicle, reducing its ability to grow new hair.
IPL is most effective during the active growth phase of the hair cycle. As not all hairs are in this phase at the same time, a course of treatments is required to achieve the best results.
Over time, this leads to long-term hair reduction and smoother skin.
- A patch test is required at least 48 hours before your first treatment
- This includes a consultation and a small test using the IPL device
- Any reaction (redness, itching, swelling, etc.) must be reported
- Patch tests must be completed within the last 12 months
- A new patch test is required if there have been any changes to your health or medication
This treatment may not be suitable if you:
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding

Frequently asked questions
The sensation varies depending on the individual and the treatment area.
Most clients describe IPL as a mild, quick flicking sensation on the skin. Modern medical-grade machines use built-in cooling technology, which helps keep the skin comfortable throughout the treatment.
Overall, IPL is considered a very tolerable treatment, and most clients do not find it painful.
Hair grows in 3 stages: Anagen (active growth), Catagen, and Telogen.
IPL is only effective during the Anagen (active growth) stage, when the hair is still connected to the follicle.
As not all hairs are in this stage at the same time, each session only targets a percentage of hairs.
This is why a course of treatments is required, spaced approximately 4–6 weeks apart, to effectively target all hairs over time.
Results vary from person to person.
After completing a full course, some clients may require occasional top-up treatments to maintain results, while others may not need them as frequently.
Factors that can influence regrowth include:
• Hormonal changes (e.g. pregnancy or menopause)
• Medications
• Changes in overall health
Top-up treatments help maintain smooth, long-lasting results, and any regrowth is typically finer, lighter, and easier to manage.
Hormonal imbalances can affect hair growth, but IPL can still be a very effective option.
Conditions such as menopause, PCOS, or hirsutism may cause increased or ongoing hair growth. While IPL can significantly reduce and manage this hair, it does not treat the underlying hormonal cause.
This means:
• You may require ongoing or maintenance treatments
• Results can vary depending on hormone fluctuations
Many clients with hormonal imbalances still see excellent improvement and find IPL the most effective way to manage unwanted hair long-term.
If you have any concerns, it’s always best to consult your GP before starting treatment.
Yes, this is completely normal.
IPL works by weakening the hair follicle and reducing its blood supply. Over time, this can cause hair to grow back finer, lighter, and softer.
This is actually a positive result, as the hair becomes far less noticeable and easier to manage.
It’s very important not to wax, pluck, thread, or use any method that removes the hair from the root during your course of treatments.
IPL works by targeting the hair within the follicle. If the hair is removed from the root, there is nothing for the light to target, making the treatment less effective.
You can:
• Shave
• Trim
• Use hair removal creams (if suitable for your skin)
Please ensure the area is shaved the day before or on the day of your appointment. This allows the light energy to effectively reach the hair follicle beneath the skin.
