Helpful Information

To achieve long lasting or permanent hair reduction, it is necessary to destroy the hair follicle from which individual hairs grow. Well controlled pulses of light penetrate the upper skin layer and are absorbed by one of the body’s own natural chemicals – melanin – in the hair contained in the follicle.
Melanin converts the light energy into heat. This heat is transferred to the hair follicle, which is destroyed, making it unable to produce a new hair. The treatment is only effective on growing hairs as these are still attached to the follicle. The majority of our hair is in the resting phase which explains why more than one treatment is necessary. This technique is called “Selective Photothermolysis”.

Patch Testing Requirement’s

  • I will require you to have had a patch test at least 48 hours before your appointment. This will involve a consultation and quick patch testing using the IPL machine. Any kind of reaction must be shared with me including redness, itchiness, rash, swelling or bruising (or any other symptoms you may feel is linked).

  • Your patch test must have been completed within the previous one year or we will need to repeat it. If you have had a IPL hair removal treatments within the last year then we will not need to repeat a patch test as the IPL Treatment will have been in contact with your skin and will be sufficient at monitoring for a reaction.

  • If you have any changes in your medical condition, then we will need to repeat a patch test regardless of the time since your last tint treatment. This is because your body changes and could react to the IPL Treatment.

Frequently asked questions

The sensation will always very from individual and treatment area.

IPL is virtually a pain free treatment and all medical grade machines will have a freezing mechanism attached to the IPL handle, this mean when every shot of heat is dispersed a shot of cold is also dispersed to create a more comfortable treatment and to keep the skins tissue safe and cool.

I myself have had the treatment done is many areas and do not think its painful or uncomfortable.

Your hair grows in 3 different stages shown by the image above: Anagen, Catagen & Telogen.

Your Anagen stage is our active growth stage, when the Derma Papilla is still attached to the Hair follicle. This stage is the only stage IPL or laser can effect your hair growth by heating up the melanin with the hair and damaging the follicle and blood supply.

This means every treatment we carry out only a third of your the hairs are being treated, this is why multiple treatments are needed and why they need to be spaced at least 4 weeks apart to allow the natural hair cycle to occur ready for the following treatment.

Everyone is individually different, some clients will have their course of treatments and will need to return for top up treatments with in a year or couple of years to maintain smooth hairless skin and some clients wont need to return at all and there isn’t a way in telling how your individual treatment results will go unless you have the treatment done.

There are factors that can simulate hair to grow after your course of treatments and these are pregnancy, the menopause, certain medication and severe changes to your health.

It’s important for clients who are interested or are going to have IPL or Laser hair removal treatment’s to be aware of the possible top up treatments needed.

Clients that have returned for top up treatments have said “their hair has never grown back the same, it is thinner and lighter and much easier to managed”. Overall they are happy with the results and would recommend it to a friend.

There are different types of hormonal imbalances, some that work great with IPL or Laser treatment and some that might need on going IPL or laser treatments and some that wont be able to be treated at all.

Clients that are going through the menopause might start experiencing dark hair growth in areas like their chin or lip, these hairs are treatable but due to the fluctuation of hormones the client will probably go through a period of growing new hairs regularly which can make the treatment appear unsuccessful when actually the treatment is working but the body is producing more hairs then normal due to the hormonal fluctuations. This might make client’s wish to wait until there hormonals have settled down before starting treatment however some clients don’t want to wait and are happy to have this treatment to maintain any hairs that are coming through.

Clients that suffer with polycystic ovaries or hirsutism will be experiencing extra growth in areas they do not wish to have, this makes IPL or laser hair removal a really positive treatment to have done but this doesn’t treat the underling issues which means the body will most probably continue growing unwanted hairs which means this treatment will most probably be on going with regular tops up to managed the unwanted hairs. I have treated so many clients with these issues and each one have said this is the BEST hair removal method to maintain their hair growth.

Any other health issues that might also be encouraging hair growth will need to visit their G.P first and address the underlying issues. This will ensure that IPL or Laser treatments will be safe to carry out but also effective.

Yes, This can happen and isn’t uncommon. Depending on the client and their skin/hair type the machine may only be able to damage the Dermal Papilla (the blood supply) making the blood supply very thin and unable to produce enough food for the hair to grow probably causing the hair to grow back weak, very fine and light.

This is actually still a desired outcome for many client’s as it still gives them freedom from trying to manage thick dark hairs. (especially in intimate areas)

It is extremely important you do not wax, pluck, surger or do any type of hair removal that involves removing the hair from the follicle. If you do remove the hairs from the follicle you will experience a wasted treatment, this is because you will be removing the hairs from the active Anagen stage and forcing them to regrow which means your following on appointment will be treating empty follicles.

This can be very difficult for clients especially when the hairs are in visual areas like chin or lip. You can however shave or trim the hairs and even use some hair removal creams at certain times in-between treatments.

Also I need you to shave the area on the day of your appointment or the night before. This allows the light energy to dive straight in to the hair follicle without spending half its time of the hair shaft above the skin.
