WHAT IS MY SKIN TYPE?
Understanding your skin is the first step towards choosing suitable products and professional treatments.
Your skin type describes how your skin naturally behaves, such as oily, dry, combination or balanced. A skin concern is something you would like to improve, such as breakouts, pigmentation, sensitivity or fine lines.
You may have more than one concern alongside your skin type—for example, oily but dehydrated skin or dry skin with pigmentation. Your skin may also change over time due to age, hormones, lifestyle, medication, the environment and the products you use.
Use this guide as a helpful starting point, or book a consultation if you would like your skin assessed professionally.
Oily skin produces more sebum and may develop noticeable shine, enlarged-looking pores, congestion, blackheads or breakouts.
Oily skin still needs hydration. Using products that are too harsh or repeatedly stripping away oil can leave the skin feeling irritated and unbalanced.
Dry skin naturally produces less oil and may feel tight, rough or uncomfortable. It can appear flaky or dull, and fine lines may look more noticeable when the skin lacks moisture.
Gentle cleansing and nourishing, barrier-supporting products can help the skin feel softer and more comfortable.
Combination skin behaves differently across the face. The forehead, nose and chin—often called the T-zone—may become oily or congested, while the cheeks feel balanced or dry.
Different areas may need slightly different products rather than treating the whole face in exactly the same way.
Balanced skin is neither persistently oily nor particularly dry. It generally feels comfortable and may have less noticeable pores and an even appearance.
Balanced skin can still experience concerns such as sensitivity, dehydration, pigmentation, breakouts or signs of ageing.
Dry and dehydrated skin are not quite the same.
Dry skin is a skin type that naturally produces less oil. Dehydrated skin is lacking water and is a temporary condition that can affect dry, oily, combination or balanced skin.
Dehydrated skin may feel tight or uncomfortable while still becoming shiny, and fine dehydration lines may appear more noticeable.
